I am a Professor of Political Science at Brigham Young University, Idaho. I am passionate about teaching, research, and mentoring my students. My primary research agenda explores the interaction between individual traits and institutional arrangements. My research has been published in Science Advances, Public Administration Review, Political Behavior, Policy Studies Journal, Political Research Quarterly, The International Journal of Press/Politics, Presidential Studies Quarterly, Environmental Politics , Politics and Religion, The American Review of Public Administration and Armed Forces and Society.
Research on Religious Identity
While existing scholarship addresses the influence of religious affiliation on political attitudes and behaviors in the United States, a number of puzzling questions remain unanswered. In response, my book demonstrates that a more complete conceptualization of religion as a social identity can help to explain many of those puzzles. As I explore the impact, both positive and negative, of religious identity on political attitudes, I also show that the religion-politics relationship is not a one-way street.
